It’s hard to imagine different types of hats than the ones worn by Alex and the other droogs in the 1971 dystopian classic, A Clockwork Orange. You’ll be thankful for the choices made once you see some of the other hats and headgear choices costumers for the film considered.

Diehard Oscar/Mark/Daniel fan here. This is the timeline:
November 2021: Alpine sit down with Oscar, Oscar's dad and Mark and offer a "terms sheet" agreement - Oscar will be Alpine's reserve for 2022 and Alpine will find him a seat for 2023 and 2024. The proper contract will be delivered in 10 business days. Oscar signs this.
Spoiler: the contract was not delivered in 10 business days.
Mark spends the rest of November, all of December and January, constantly ringing Alpine and asking for the contract. At one point, he tells the lawyer, I can't keep saying to the Piastris, "it's coming", and the lawyer tells him, "It's only me, and I'm totally swamped."
Mark contiues to hassle Alpine for the contract during February. AT THIS POINT, OSCAR HAS NO CONTRACT FOR 2022.
Then: Danny Ric gets COVID. Alpine offer Oscar to McLaren as an option. But Oscar has no contract. Therefore, OSCAR DOESN'T HAVE A SUPERLICENCE.
Desperate, the lawyer writes "legally binding" across the top of Alpine's copy of November's "terms sheet" and lodges it with the FIA as Oscar's contract so he can get a superlicence.
Five days before Bahrain, Alpine FINALLY produce the contract. But it's only for 2022, with reserve driver duties, a private testing program, and two FP1 sessions mentioned. No mention of 2023 or a race drive. Oscar signs it.
Alpine promise the race drive arrangements will follow. (I think you see where this is going by now.)
By June, there is still no movement on getting Oscar a seat for 2023. There's a vague suggestion that Alpine will arrange the Williams seat for him, but Williams have made a few sounds in the media that they're not happy to be considered a dumping ground for other teams' juniors when they have their own junior program. Meanwhile, Oscar has done a few private tests in the 2021 Alpine, and there are whispers that he is setting faster times than Ocon.
By now, Zak Brown has made up his mind he is getting rid of Daniel Ricciardo, come hell or high water, and is shopping his seat. Mark decides to get in that room. (I saw mentioned at one point that both Mark and Oscar thought that Daniel was fully aware of this discussion. Spoiler alert: he was not.)
Meanwhile, Alpine are entering into negotiations with Fernando Alonso for a contract extension. These negotiations aren't going that well because Alonso wants two years and Alpine only want to give him one. Nevertheless, the courting is very public, and Alpine aren't in any hurry, frustrating both Oscar and Fernando.
Oscar signs for McLaren on July 5, the day after the Silverstone race. The contract is for race duties conditional on Ricciardo being bought out. Oscar doesn't know that Daniel doesn't know.
On July 11, Daniel posts that he is staying. Zak Brown also says this.
At some time during July, Oscar tells Otmar Szafnauer and Laurent Rossi that he has signed for McLaren and will not be with Alpine or Williams next year. This conversation reportedly takes place twice, however, due to the fact that Daniel a) doesn't know and b) is being negotiated with to be bought out, this is not public news.
On July 28, Sebastian Vettel announces his retirement. This was entirely unexpected and creates a gap that nobody was expecting. Lawrence Stroll wastes no time in getting in contact with Fernando Alonso and putting a contract in front of him, for 2+1. Fernando, pleased to be getting what he wants, seeing the money being ploughed into AM, and no doubt feeling a little spiteful about the whole thing, signs and is announced on July 31.
On July 31, Otmar Szafnauer approaches Oscar while he is doing simulator work at the Alpine factory. In front of multiple people, he tells Oscar that he has the race drive for 2023 and congratulates him. Oscar, not wanting to cause a scene, smiles and thanks him.
On August 1, Alpine put out a tweet announcing that Oscar will race for Alpine. Sharp-eyed fans immediately clock it as weird as it has no quotes from Oscar.
And then Oscar puts out his famous tweet.
Immediate chaos.
Szafnauer and Rossi immediately start running their mouths, calling Oscar disloyal, a traitor, a backstabber, that he broke a contract, talking about suing him, etc. It is immediately assumed that Oscar is going to McLaren. Oscar says nothing, and both he and Mark stay quiet on the matter all through the summer break. It is announced that there will be a Contract Recognition Board hearing to determine where Oscar will race in 2023.
On August 25, as the summer break ends, McLaren announce that Daniel has been bought out and will not be racing for them in 2023. At that point it is confirmed that McLaren will be the other party at the CRB hearing.
On September 2, the Contract Recognition Board has its hearing. And boy howdy, does this go HORRIBLY for Alpine. The full extent of their incompetence is laid bare and they are torn to shreds by the judges. The board rules that Oscar had only one contract for 2023 - the McLaren one. And the timeline above is more or less constructed from the hearing. Not only is Alpine torn to shreds, they're ordered to pay McLaren's and Oscar's costs.
(At some time after this, Daniel hears through the grapevine - presumably Mark - that Oscar is worried Daniel hates him. Daniel calls Oscar and encourages him, supports him, and reassures him on that point.)
2 August 2023: This was sent to me 15 march, and I completely forgot about it. So sorry anon! Your contribution is very appreciated!
Ngl, i saw the “diehard Daniel fan” and immediately panicked because I thought it was going to be something else.
Thank you so much for the insight, it will be very helpful for my “Otmar’s worst nightmare” fic!
Narrator: she did not finish the fic before Otmar got fired
